June 2018, XM Textiles certifies its new antistatic fabric CleanStatic-240 to EN 20471 (Contrast colours).
The Standard EN 20471:2013 specifies requirements for high visibility clothing. High Viz clothing makes people more visible in the dark or in the rain by using HV Orange, HV Yellow or HV Red colour fabrics together with reflective tapes. There are allowed to use also fabrics of others colours in combination with HiViz colours. These so-called Contrast colours fabric ought to be not staining High Viz fabrics when weared, washed or ironed. For this purpose the following set of tests has been done for our fabric CleanStatic-240:
COLOUR FASTNESS TO HOT PRESSING (EN ISO 105-X11:1996) – performance level – PASS
Tests are given for hot pressing when the textile is dry, when it is wet, and when it is damp. The end-use of the textile usually determines which test should be made. A dry specimen (dry pressing) or a dry specimen covered with a wet cotton adjacent fabric (damp pressing) or a wet specimen covered with a wet cotton adjacent fabric (wet pressing) are pressed with a heating device at a specified temperature and pressure for a specified time.

The limit set by the Standard EN ISO 20471:2013/A1:2016 point (5.3.3) for testing of colour fastness to ironing, is 4 for staining.
WATER VAPOUR RESISTANCE

Textiles. Physiological effects. Measurement of thermal and water-vapour resistance under steady-state conditions (sweating guarded-hotplate test)
This International Standard specifies methods for the measurement of the thermal resistance and water-vapour resistance, under steady-state conditions, of e.g. fabrics, films, coatings, foams and leather, including multilayer assemblies, for use in clothing, quilts, sleeping bags, upholstery and similar textile or textile-like products. The application of this measurement technique is restricted to a maximum thermal resistance and water-vapour resistance which depend on the dimensions and construction of the apparatus used (e.g. 2 m2·K/W and 700 m2·Pa/W respectively, for the minimum specifications of the equipment referred to in this International Standard). The test conditions used in this International Standard are not intended to represent specific comfort situations, and performance specifications in relation to physiological comfort are not stated.

COLOUR FASTNESS TO DRY CLEANING
The Specimens of the textile in contact with a cotton fabric together with non-corrodible steel discs is agitated in perchloroethylene, then squeezed or centrifuged and dried in hot air. The change in colour of the specimen is assessed with the grey scale for assessing change in colour. At the conclusion of the test, the staining of the solvent is assessed by comparing the filtered solvent with unused solvent by means of the grey scale for assessing staining.
This test covers colour fastness to dry cleaning only; commercial dry cleaning practice normally involves other operations, such as water spotting, solvent spotting and steam pressing, etc.
This method is neither suitable for the evaluation of the durability of textile finishes, nor is it intended for use in evaluating the resistance of colours to spot and stain removal procedures used by the drycleaner.
